Tiki says, "Change the World by Changing Yourself!"

by joyyoga Email

Hi, awesome yogis and yoginis! So as some of you know, before my mommy was a yoga teacher, she was a mechanical engineer, and from time to time, she insists on nerding out and teaching me some physics. Now what on earth would physics have to do with yoga, you ask? That was my question, as well, believe me!

So this week, my 2 kittie-cat little brothers were chasing each other around like crazy, when all I wanted was to take a nice nap. Of course, I joined in the chase, thinking that if I could out-run them, I could jump on them and force them to chill out and be still so that I could take a snooze. Needless to say, I was not feeling very peaceful. I was using every trick in my book to try to force Mack and Kisa to slow down, but the more I got riled up over their antics, the faster and louder they were. And this is where my mommy's crazy physics comes in...

She told me that there's something called Entanglement Theory, which demonstrates how we are all connected and all one, just like we innately sense through yoga. In other words, how I'm feeling towards myself and how I treat myself is manifested directly in my physical experience.

So rather than trying to overcome Mack and Kisa, sit on them, and physically force them to be quiet and more peaceful in order to make me feel more peaceful, instead I should look inward and make sure that I'm treating myself with the same acceptance, compassion, and peace that I was wanting to experience. I have to say, when I really looked inward, I realized that I could treat myself with a little more compassion and that I could accept myself a bit more. When I made the conscious decision to relax and just accept my little Chihuahua self, I immediately felt more peaceful, regardless of what Mack and Kisa were doing. And the strange thing was, this inward change wasn't separate from my outward experience - so when I made the conscious decision to behave in a more peaceful and loving manner to myself, my outward world became more peaceful and loving.

So this week, remember that we can't always change what's going on around us. In fact, trying to change our external circumstances can be a frustrating and futile way to try to control how we feel. Instead, look inward, and send yourself some of that compassion and some of that unconditional love and acceptance. You just might find that accepting and loving yourself will lead to a more accepting and loving experience in this physical world. Yep, this yoga-dog has learned that it's truly all ONE and all connected - when you change yourself, you change the world!

Namaste,
Tiki
